A trial date has been set for Eric Holder, the man charged with 2019 killing of rapper Nipsey Hussle.

According to local reports, Holder, now 31, will stand trial beginning January 5, 2022, nearly three years after the Victory Lap rapper was gunned down outside of the clothing store he'd opened in the neighborhood where he grew up.

Holder was arrested two days after the shooting and later indicted in May 2019. He faces one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon in addition to two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. Holder has remained in jail since the indictment.

Hussle, whose real name was Ermias Asghedom, was visiting his Marathon Clothing Store in his native South Los Angeles neighborhood the day he was killed.

Two other men were also wounded in the shootings.

Rolling Stone magazine reported Holder's trial was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the retirement of a judge.

Holder is currently being represented by Deputy Public Defender Aaron Jansen who says his client was experiencing "a substantial mental health issue" and was "off his medication" the day of the shooting. The lawyer declined to elaborate to the outlet on any previous mental health diagnosis Holder may have had.
