Madlib's long-awaited joint album with Mac Miller will finally see the light of day.

During a radio interview on Monday, March 28, the seasoned producer appeared with Talib Kweli to promote their latest collaborative effort Liberation 2. As the conversation continued, Madlib spoke on the other projects he's been working on lately. He confirmed Maclib is the title of his upcoming joint project with the Pittsburgh artist, who passed away back in 2018.

“Right now, I’m finishing up the Mac Miller album, Planet Asia album, Erykah Badu album, different stuff,” Madlib explained. “[Erykah and I] just started on an album…We have a lot of unreleased stuff.”

Maclib has been in the works since before Mac died. The album's existence was first acknowledged in 2019 by producer Thelonious Martin, who told DJ Booth the story of how Madlib put him on during one of his DJ sets in Chicago. Shortly after the interview was published, Madlib issued a statement about the album and confirmed he began working with Mac in 2014 after the Swimming rapper recorded a verse for Freddie Gibbs' Piñata project. Despite already having an album's worth of songs together by 2015, Madlib asserted he had no plans to release it at that time.

Madlib also confirmed that he has the blessing of Mac Miller's estate. His estate, which is run by the rapper's family, previously released the rapper's first posthumous project Circles in 2020. The follow-up to his final LP Swimming has 14-tracks including "Good News." As of this report, there's no set release date for their upcoming collaborative project.
