50 Cent says he almost had Sean "Diddy" Combs' children appear in his popular docuseries about the mogul's life and legal issues.
In a new cover story Us Weekly published on Tuesday, December 9, the rapper-filmmaker was asked if he had any contact with the imprisoned artist during the making of Sean Combs: The Reckoning. Fif said he hadn't spoken to him since his case began last year. Although Combs and his team are totally against the documentary, Fif said he did speak to Combs' sons about possibly appearing the series.
"I had communications with his son," Fif explained.
"There was a point when they were interested in being a part of the doc because they wanted to show their perspective," he continued. "They were concerned about how [things] would be portrayed."
50 Cent didn't clarify which son he spoke to, but he has worked with Combs' sons at some capacity over the years. He previously recruited Quincy Brown to star as "Crown Camacho" in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Fif also worked with Justin Combs when he portrayed "King" in Power Book II: Ghost. Neither of Combs' children appeared in the docuseries, especially since there were accusations involving Justin and his father.
According to Deadline, the docuseries garnered 21.8 million views in its opening week. Combs' legal team has denied all the allegations made in the 4-part series and claimed 50 Cent and Netflix illegally obtained some of the footage. Netflix has since pushed back and said all the video was obtained legally.
"Beyond the legal issues, this is a personal breach of trust. Mr. Combs has long respected Ted Sarandos and admired the legacy of Clarence Avant," Combs' rep said. "For Netflix to give his life story to someone who has publicly attacked him for decades feels like an unnecessary and deeply personal affront. At minimum, he expected fairness from people he respected."
