Tips from Parents Who Have Experienced Remote Learning

I bought $200 worth of school uniforms. Ready was an understatement, I was excited to get my routine back. Well, Mobile County School Board Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill rained all over my parade.

That is why Mobile County Public Schools has made the decision to start school on September 1. We will offer all instruction remotely so we can protect our children, our teachers, and our staff as much as possible during these difficult times. We will do remote instruction for the first quarter, which is nine weeks, and then we will re-evaluate our situation and decide what to do for the second quarter.

In all honesty I respect the decision to postpone gathering in school buildings because let's be honest colds travel hella fast when school is in session. I can only imagine how quickly COVID-19 will spread and that is crazy scary. Still I'm a Mother working from home with deadlines and meetings. So how do you make it work because this is our reality? Well I found some parents that have already survived it and here's what they suggested

Create a Schedule

This is the most common tip you'll find anywhere. Now you can try to do your schedule based on a Pintrest post or be more realistic. Teacher and Mother Courtney Burnette say

A Schedule worked best for me. We did certain subjects on certain days so she knew what to expect. And giving breaks in between. Recess, Lunch, etc.

Set the Rules

My cousin Phylicia McMillian is a RN and Mother of four. When she's not fighting on the front lines guess what she's doing? You got it, educating her babies by her rules. Don't worry about doing the curriculum exactly like the instructor. Trust you know your child and how to get across to them the information they

Accept It's Going to be a Challenge

Ok if we're going to do this let's not just do the pretty stuff. Part of your stress is knowing it'll be hard and we will not dismiss that. What we will add is that it's hard but possible. Mother of four Rai P says

Wine....lots of wine...and prayer...I have high, middle, elementary, daycare, full time work...I just split up my time the youngest went first..it was hard but we did it....

I polled my Facebook friends who have already survived this. You can read the comments and leave your own below
