August Alsina just explained why he was unable to make an Essence gig this past weekend. The singer says serious health issues kept him from going down to New Orleans for the 25th-anniversary edition of the fest.
He previously told Jada Pinkett Smith, "I have a liver disease where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself. Reality is I'm sick all the time. I'd really like to talk about it and I'm not looking for anybody's sympathy. Don't treat me like I’m a… cancer patient, because I'm not."
This week, he offered up an update on his condition. While wearing a hospital gown, Alsina said he "Wants to apologize for not being able to make the Essence fest gig last night. I take my career and your time very seriously and the fact that you guys show up for me, endlessly means the world! I’m man down right now and figured I should share that my autoimmune disease is raging, but I’m fighting this thing and on my mission to shake back and be able to make it to you. I got so much new new to share with you."
He says his disease got so bad that he woke up one day unable to walk, and that’s when he knew he had to go to the hospital.
