BET Awards Show Makes a Statement

So last night's BET Awards was a little different...

The show went out to a wider audience than ever, airing on BET, BET HER and CBS.

They kicked the show off with a new remix of Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” featuring Nas, YG, Rapsody, and Black Thought that incorporated footage of protests around the country

Artists got extra creative in their presentation, with green screens, socially distanced renditions and unique environments. Megan Thee Stallion stole the show with a Mad Max/Road Warrior inspired performance of her new single, “Girls in the Hood.” as well “Savage” remix ft Beyonce...

Meg also picked up the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award

DJ Khaled got the video of the year award with “Higher” featuring Nipsey Hussle and John Legend

Roddy Ricch snagged the album of the Year with Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial

And Beyonce was given the Humanitarian Award

This year’s show marked the 20th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the network. Throughout the night, host Amanda Seales paid tribute to shows such as 106 & Park, Comicview, Teen Summit and Rap City.

DJ Khaled Dropped A Major Hint Last Night

During last night’s BET Awards, Khaled gave a brief speech expressing his gratitude for winning the Video of the Year award of “Higher” featuring Nipsey Hussle and John Legend. Khaled used the moment to tease his upcoming album. After Khaled finished boasting about his next release, an animated owl appeared on screen, holding a major key in its mouth and flying towards the camera. It’s a pretty clear sign that “the Drake vocals are in" and we're one step closer to a new all-star summer anthem.

Aretha Franklin Biopic Trailer Stars Jennifer Hudson

We're getting our first look at the trailer for Respect.

And there's one clear takeaway -- Jennifer Hudson does a terrific job as Aretha Franklin.

The singer-actress, who earned an Oscar for playing the Florence Ballard-like character in Dreamgirls, nails the sound and attitude of the Queen of Soul in the first trailer for the bio-pic that's on target to premiere in December.

The trailer, which debuted on CBS's Sunday night telecast of the BET Awards, has now been posted online.
