OLYMPICS: U.S. Still Tops in Medal Count

Medal

China leads the gold rush.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

We're seeing a whole slew of new stars at this Olympics.

Kudos to Simone for speaking her truth.

Artistic swimming and the women's skateboarding were my favorite events on TV Tuesday night.

In the race for the gold, however, China is number-one with 32, compared to 25 for the U.S. and 20, for host country Japan.

Team USA continued to do well in track and field, with Sydney McLaughlin beating her own teammate, Dalilah Muhammad, to take the gold in the 400-meter hurdles while setting a new world record in the process. Muhammad took the silver.

Also on the track, Athing Mu took the gold in the women's 800-meter race, setting a new American record.

In women's wrestling, Tamyra Mensah-Stock took the gold, becoming the first American Black woman and only the second American woman to do so.

In a bit of a letdown, Jessica Springsteen, yes, the Boss's daughter, failed to qualify for the show jumping finals at Tokyo's Equestrian Park.

Simone Biles took the bronze on the beam and later talked about the mental health challenges she's faced of late. (ESPN)
